The Klagenfurt native studied at the music academy and university in
Graz( Austria). Her voice teacher was
Karl Ernst Hoffmann and she attended
master classes offered by Sena Jurinac, Anna Reynolds, Neil Semer and others.
|
Waltraud H.M. has performed as a lied recitalist and concert soloist in
many countries as well as on radio and television.
She partecipated at numerous international festivals like the “Bregenzer
Festspiele”, the “Mozartwoche Salzburg, the “Ljubljana Festival”, the
“Musikprotokoll im Steirischen Herbst” and won prizes at world-renowned
competitions. ( “Pretoria/Unisa Transnet” 1994 and “Salzburger Mozart-Wettbewerb”
1995) She has performed together with renowned orchestras and conductors, among
them Michael Gielen, Fabio Luisi, Manfred Honeck, Ralf Weikert and Peter
Rundel.
She dedicates herself intensively to contemporary music and modern opera
and has sung many premieres. (“ Johannes- Apocalypse of J.Françaix, opera
“Nacht” of Friedrich Haas, opera “Kronprinz Friedrich” of Siegfried Matthus,
Minimalmusic- opera “The Beauty and the
Beast” of Phil Glass) She has been involved in several CD-recordings ( among
them “Die Hirten bei der Krippe zu Bethlehem” of Joseph Eybler, “Jephta und
seine Tochter” oratory of Carl Reinthaler).She sang the “Charlotte” in Werther
of Massenet at the Comic Opera Berlin”
in 1995 and the “Marina” in Boris Godunow of Mussorgski at the Bremen Theater
in 1996. From 1997 to 2003 she joined the Ensemble of the “Staatstheater
Cottbus” where she expanded her
repertoire in many different roles, among them: Cherubino/ The Marriage of
Figaro, Polina / The Queen of Spades, Anita/ West-Side Sory, Delilah / Samson
and Delilah, Hänsel / Hänsel und Gretel, Rosina/ Il Barbiere di Siviglia,
Suzuki/ Madame Butterfly, Carmen, Ulrica/ Un ballo in Maschera and many others.
Since 2003 she had various guest performances at the “Staatstheater Cottbus”
and at the Rostock Theatre. In addition to performing on the opera stage, Waltraud Hoffmann-Mucher
maintains a busy concert schedule in Germany,
Austria and abroad, singing oratories and early operas like the
“ The Fairy Queen” of Purcell,
including also various Lied-Recitals , recently the “ Winterreise” of Franz
Schubert and songs of Edward Grieg, Alban Berg, Nikolaj Medtner, Sergej
Rachmaninov, Modest Mussorgski and Sergej Prokofjev. Now she is very sucessfully in performing the
role “Leokadja Begbick” in “Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny” of Kurt
Weill at the “Anhaltinische Theater Dessau” where she will continue to sing
also in 2007.In September 2006 she will start to teach “singing” at the
Conservatory of St. Pölten ( near Vienna).
